I love the idea of having a life you don’t need a vacation from! I like living it even more…
Last month, I had a ticket booked to Turkey, where we have a holiday home. I had spent a long time working out the logistics and arranging to stay with friends on the way. Then, about a week before the trip, I noticed something unusual (for me). I wasn’t packing, I hadn’t booked a taxi to meet me, and I hadn’t told my friends in Turkey I was coming.
What was going on?
It took quite a lot of digging and soul searching to find the answer.
I didn’t need a vacation!
On so many levels this sounds wrong. After all, this is very much a first world problem – “Mmm – should I go and sit on my lovely terrace and watch the sunrise (and sunset) or not? Why wouldn’t I want to go and lie on an unspoilt Mediterranean beach, within walking distance of my house through fragrant pine forests and rest my body on that warm sand?”
I certainly felt confused and guilty – because the airfare is not cheap.
But when I delved, and really “got” that I have found a way of being happy exactly where I am, that I didn’t “need” a vacation – then I really relaxed!
I can rest my body into the earth right here and how. As I type I can consciously feel the support of Mother Earth right through my bones. Of course, lying of warm sand is special, but taking the “have to do this in order to really relax” out of the equation was mind-blowing.
I am supported, right now.
I don’t need to look out over mountains to feel expansive. Of course that is special, but I choose to feel expansive anyway… I can breathe in from the infinity of the Universe and feel so much space…
I feel spacious, right now.
With a genuine feeling of support and spaciousness, then really the business of being a business woman becomes SO much easier…
Support and spaciousness is available to you too, right now.
I invite you to turn your focus to where your body feels the support of the earth – that is actually the sensation of where your body is touching the chair, or the floor…
Allow yourself to breathe out, consciously sending stress and worries down through your bones and into the earth. Then relax into the feeling of being supported… Lovely isn’t it?
Then ask yourself, “What Quality would most serve me, right now?” It might be something like relaxation, or focus or bravery – anything positive that your heart yearns for. It may change every time you do this exercise, so just trust your first thought. This is about “right now”, after all.
When you have your Quality, consciously breathe it in, imagining a never ending flow from infinity into your body. Breathe into every cell…
Breathing in…from the Universe…breathing out….into the Earth.
Giving yourself a vacation, right now…
