This year you are going to hear me talking a lot about pleasure. In all it’s many forms. Because, if your life is devoid of pleasure I would guess that you are unsatisfied. Minimally. And unsatisfied people can’t be happy and successful. Or, that is not a version of success that I promote or support. And if it is a trap which you have been snared by, I’d love to help you break free! One of the things that brings me great pleasure is being organized! And Mondays are all about organization. Of my life, my habits, my business, our home. You name it, I can organize and beautify it!
Monday is honestly one of my favorite days! It always has been. But it keeps getting better…You see, my first few years in business I basically played hooky on Mondays and pretended that I was still “just a mom.” Because the truth is, I LOVED being just a mom. And Monday always felt good, and full of possibility, because it was the day the boys returned to school and I could get myself and the house ready for another whirlwind week. I assure you, with four children, weekends were the opposite of a break, and I definitely needed to regroup on Monday following all of the weekend activities, before diving back in for another crazy week. With two in college things have slowed down somewhat around here, but Monday will forever be a prep day for me. A day of pleasure.
On Mondays, after returning to work as a 40-something single mom of four, I gave myself permission to indulge in feeling like myself again, during the transition back to being a working woman…which felt very strange to me, if not wrong. It simple wasn’t who I was. I’ll share more about that in another post! So anyway, for a few years after returning to work, while my identity was shifting from mom to working mom, I called Monday “Total Mom Day.” I did household chores, planned a menu, bought groceries, prepared food, spent extra time with my boys, calendarized everything for the week, etc. Kind of like I had in the past. And, it felt good. Now, Monday has evolved into a day where I take really good care of myself and have a money date. Oh, and I do laundry. My housekeeper comes and makes the house beautiful, and, I have groceries delivered. I organize things. I move a little more slowly and a little more intentionally with a mindful eye on my vision. I am well-supported. By choice. So Monday has evolved into the day that I act most like a successful business owner. And, it’s no surprise that I spend the day at home. Which makes me very happy! The happiest. I take my time with my morning routine, put special touches on the house after Connie finishes cleaning, mind my business (meaning my vision, planning, and financial matters), and basically revel in the things I love most.
I’d love to know what makes you the happiest. And how much of that do you experience on a weekly basis?
If I haven’t made you cringe already with how much I love Mondays, I’ll go just a little deeper…One of the things I love to do most is wake up without an alarm. Because it makes me feel like I’ve arrived. Like I am truly successful. My goal in life (okay, one of them) is to be able to walk up without an alarm ever day. And when I get enough sleep, I feel as if I can conquer the world! Creativity flows, energy is abundant, I am more grateful, giving, hopeful, innovative, efficient, and I just feel better. So on Mondays when the boys are away (twice a month), I allow myself to wake up without an alarm from time to time. Mmmm…It feels good.
What do yo do from time to time (or everyday!) that feels good? How can you do it more?
The funny thing is that when I started playing around with my vision, I realized that I was pretty close to already living my ideal day. I know what it is with exquisite clarity. From wake up until bedtime. This clarity helps me feel it, and create small aspects of it, enjoying life, as is, while always getting one step closer to living that ideal day. And staying close to my vision, writing my goals, journaling gratitude, having that money date, and allowing myself to understand and indulge in things that bring me pleasure, are all daily practices that help make it so much easier to realize. These are the simple things that make life great!
This is exactly why I created the Daily Power Journal. If you’re curious about designing a life you love and experiencing success on your terms without torturing yourself to achieve it, I highly recommend trying this tool for 30 days. Then, if you love it, you can buy the paper copy. If not, then it was a good practice in normalizing habits of happiness and success into your life. Because I believe everyone deserves to live a life you love that you don’t need a vacation from. And it doesn’t have to be difficult. But goodness knows we are all busy. I mean, I’m surprised you’ve even made it this far down the page!
So with that being said, I am going to sign off and get back to my fabulous Monday routine, which includes picking up my boys from school, myself, and on time, and then tonight I am cooking lasagna for dinner after I finish a little more work. I realize that the details of my ideal day might bore you and I shared some of it with you today for a purpose. To get you thinking.
What if you could live your ideal day now? What would you do from morning until night? Write it down and be very specific. Then, begin to implement that day, one bite-sized morsel of pleasure at a time.
One thing’s for sure…your ideal day will be different than mine. And, I PROMISE it is worth pursuing! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Chasing someone else’s version of success is what chronic anxiety and stress are made of. And freedom is realized when you define your own version of success and go after it wholeheartedly. What they don’t tell you is that this can be scary. So if you’d like someone on your team, someone who will believe you, support you, challenge you…reply to this message and let’s discuss what’s holding you back from designing a life you don’t need a vacation from. I would love to help you define and LIVE your ideal day. And I assure you that you too can love Mondays! And every day of that matter.
